RECRUITMENT OF 3,000 TEACHERS AND THE EXCLUSION OF N-POWER VOLUNTEERS: A PLEA FOR RECONSIDERATION AND INCLUSION
ATTENTION: DEACON UDOM GABRIEL EMMANUEL
EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR, AKWA IBOM STATE.
We, the N-Power Volunteers in Akwa Ibom State appreciate the effort of our Governor in the bold step he has taken in employing holders of National Certificate in Education (NCE) as Primary school teachers. This employment will help in reducing the number of unemployed youths in our state and further enhance the level of teaching and learning in our primary schools.
Meanwhile, successful N-Power volunteers that are qualified and eligible for this job (NCE Holders) have been asked not to apply. This directive has necessitated this plea based on the following conditions/ reasons:
(1) N-Power is not a permanent job/recruitment. It is only a Social Intervention Scheme (SIP) that will run for only two years.
(2) N-Power beneficiaries of this first batch will end their voluntary services in November, 2018.
(3)The chances of being fully employed/absorbed by the government (Federal or State) is not yet guaranteed. In fact, N-Power volunteers are encouraged to seek for permanent and lasting jobs.
(4)N-Power scheme is strategically organised that if any volunteer secure a reliable and permanent job, the scheme will know and terminate the volunteer’s service.
(5) Not all the about 5,000 N-Power Volunteers in Akwa Ibom has been fully verified and paid stipends. About 1,000 are yet to know their fate in the scheme.
(6) Among the uncertain 1,000 volunteers, majority are NCE holders who should be given the opportunity to apply in the state.
(7) N30,000 N-Power stipend is not dependable. As such, we should be allowed to also seek for a better paying and permanent job as this cannot carter for a volunteer with family.
May I use this opportunity to call on our listening Governor to reconsider the issue of N-Power volunteers and allow them to join other NCE holders in obtaining the employment forms so as to secure their future.
