Arsenal Boss Arsene Wenger has ruled out the possibility of selling star player Alexis Sanchez to Chelsea and claims Arsenal do not need to sell their best players to their Premier League rivals anymore.
Reports had emerged that Chelsea Boss Antonio Conte was keen on signing the Chile international, whose contract as a Gunner expires at the end of next season.
And while on international duty, the 28-year old made comments that suggested a likely move to Stamford Bridge, which has brought to mind the event where Arsenal sold Robin van Persie to Manchester United in 2012.
But Wenger believes the two situations are wholly different and that Arsenal will not sell Sanchez to Chelsea under any circumstances.
“It’s true that it happened before when we were in positions where we had to sell our best players but that is not the case now.
“He (Alexis Sanchez) has one and a half year contract it’s not an immediate concern for Arsenal Football Club.
“I think personally he’s happy here. It’s true we haven’t extended his contract here, you have to be cautious when people give interviews in their own countries as the interpretation is not always the same.
“He wants to win the championship.”
Arsenal will face Manchester City at the Emirate Stadium on Sunday in their week 30 fixture of the English Premier League.
