Procurement Manager
This individual is directly responsible for the efficiency and flow of the stock room and inventory to support all production and engineering requirements. Requires a detail-oriented individual with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. This individual will interact with all departments and management levels. Required computer abilities include an understanding of database logic and a moderate level of expertise with the software programs Word and Excel. This individual must have excellent oral and written communication skills
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Primary responsibility is to manage the procurement of materials and services at the lowest cost, in the most efficient manner possible.
- Manage purchase orders for assigned commodities or customers’ production requirements, and related manufacturing supplies, based on MRP demands as well as exception requirements.
- Manage RFQ’s and evaluate supplier bids and contracts.
- Negotiate supplier contracts and place blanket PO’s where appropriate and cost effective.
- Coordinate supplier involvement in product development efforts.
- Manage the qualification of new suppliers.
- Manage and develop relationships with suppliers to reduce costs and improve quality including on-time deliveries.
- Work with Quality Assurance and Engineering to resolve quality challenges.
- Work with finance to resolve potential invoice/PO variances.
- Continuously train members of the procurement team in all aspects of purchasing.
- Forecast, plan, schedule and order for long lead items and/or critical components to complete projects along multiple paths and timelines (production builds, custom builds, and R&D).
- Responsible for creating and updating part lists/BOMs from multiple sources for use by engineering, production staff and internal purchasing requirements
- Coordinate BOM updates and part revisions with vendors
- Oversee proper use and maintenance of the inventory database
- Resolve resource/materials conflicts and determine priorities
- Review of materials for adherence to specifications/requirements
- Anticipate needs when possible to support unexpected requirements
- Oversee all purchases for accuracy, based on requirements
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. A certification in supply chain management will be an added advantage.
- 10 – 15 years’ experience in a contract manufacturing environment as a buyer, involved in turnkey projects.
- Minimum 3 years managing procurement staff of 3 or more buyers.
Special Skills or other Requirements:
- Experienced in procuring all local as well as imported items of Rigid
- Ability to read blueprints, manufacturer’s data sheets, fabrication and assembly drawings.
- Ability to negotiate favorable terms and continuously improve pricing for materials and services.
- Demonstrated hands-on approach and an ability to work effectively in a team-based environment across all levels of organization.
- Proven track record of positive and long-standing relationships with vendors and suppliers
