MTN Partners LUMOS For 24-Hour Mobile Electricity Power Supply
Mbakaan Kwen, AbujaThe global renowned solar energy provider LUMOS has gone into partnership with MTN for mobile solar electricity supply aimed at providing affordable power to homes and small businesses using their mobile phones.
Speaking at the event in Abuja, the CEO of LUMOS Mr Davidi Vortman, expressed appreciation to its partners, stating that the objective of the company was to make mobile electricity very scalable and easy for the public and bring the innovation to every city and village in Nigeria.
According to him, 150,000 people in 30,000 locations in Nigeria have already subscribed to the source of noiseless, fumeless and 24 -hour electricity supply for the comfort of their children’s education, better medical care and sustainability of small businesses.
On his part, the minister of power, works and housing, Babatunde Fashola explained that solar energy and other renewables put together are supplements to the conventional energy system that have proven themselves to be very prolific. However, each form of energy has its own limitations like the solar needs batteries to power when the sun goes down, so does hydro become less effective during the dry seasons because the force of water is reduced.
“What we need to achieve is what we have developed an energy mix for Nigeria that sees that Nigeria achieves 30 per cent renewable in 2030. Therefore with each of such partnership is a dream come true for a change in the power sector,” he said.
Minister of communications, Barr. Adebayo Shittu, advised telecommunication companies in Nigeria to improve on the poor services provided to customer and to equally scrap out unsubscribed messages sent to individuals which most time cause a nuisance in the daily lives of Nigerian. He equally urged that before the federal government uses the “big stick,” the industry should get their companies listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange(NSE) so that Nigerian citizens could be a part of the system.
