ID fixes August 30 for Anambra guber primary, mulls female candidate. Independent Democrat (ID) has hinted that it may field a female governorship candidate for the November 18 election in Anambra.
It also announced that the party had fixed August 30 for its primary election.
State Chairman, Ikechukwu Okafor, who spoke in Awka, said four aspirants had already indicated interest to contest the poll on the platform of ID.
“The catch areas of our party are women and youths; and as I’m speaking to you now, a lady and a youth of about 36 years had shown interest to contest the November 18 governorship election on our platform.
“We want to give the youths and women the opportunity to shine ordinary were there are no ways. That is the primary purpose of our party.”
On the threat by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to scuttle the Anambra election, Okafor said the party was not disturbed by any threat, saying preparations are on top gear for the poll.
“Why should I be disturbed by such things. We’re ready to win that election. We’re not concerned about any threat. The police should do their work and ensure that a peaceful election is held in the state. It’s not our concern.
“We are not a afraid of IPOB but all I want to tell you is that Anambra election must hold; it is the duty of the security agencies to take care of that situation and not any political party,” Okafor stated.
