Ondo State News – Officers of the Nigerian Police Force have sealed off the Ondo State House of Assembly amid crisis between factions loyal to Malachi Coker and Jumoke Akindele.
This comes barely 48 hours after the Speaker of the House, Jumoke Akindele was impeached by Coker’s faction over corruption allegations.
Akindele has however insisted that she remains the speaker because her removal does not meet the constitutional requirements of the House.
The fracas ensued after Coker pronounced himself Speaker of the house, assuming the Speaker’s seat during Friday’s plenary.
His decision to assume the position of the House Speaker was immediately challenged by Akindele, thus causing a face off between supporters of both factions.
The misunderstanding attracted the presence of Police operatives led by the State Commissioner of Police, Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison.
The Police then ordered the immediate shutdown of the premises in order to prevent break down of law and order.
