Fernandinho saw red but Gael Clichy and substitute Sergio Aguero secured the points for Pep Guardiola’s men on Monday afternoon
Manchester City edged past Burnley at the Etihad on Monday afternoon, despite Fernandinho being sent off in the first minute.
The midfielder flew into Gudmundsson, catching the Icelander with a truly terrible two-footed challenge, leaving the referee with no choice but to show him his third red card of the season.
Gael Clichy put Pep Guardiola’s side ahead, however, before substitute Sergio Aguero doubled the host’s lead.
Ben Mee pulled one back for Burnley, but City were able to hold on for all three points.
