Rice Sellers In Ogun storm Gov Amosun’s office in Ogun
Following Wednesday, February 22 showdown with officials of the Nigeria Customs Service in Sango-Ota, The Punch is reporting that scores of rice sellers on Thursday, February 23 stormed Ogun state Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s office at Oke Mosan in Abeokuta.
The traders are protesting the invasion of their shops by the Customs officials of the Federal Operation Unit, Ikeja, Lagos on Wednesday.
The protesting rice sellers were led by their coordinator Alhaja Wakilat Salako.
The traders alleged on Wednesday that the Customs officials invaded and broke into over 60 shops in Sango-Ota rice market and carted away bags of rice and kegs of vegetable oil.
He said, “After the Area Commander, and the Divisional Police Officer calmed us down yesterday (Wednesday).
“They told us to go back to the market and take the inventory of those bags of rice taken away by the Customs operatives, and we later discovered that it was not 18,000 bags but 4, 200 bags of rice.
“We are here this morning to tell the governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, to help us retrieve the 4, 200 bags of rice and 478 kegs of vegetable oil taken away by the Customs operatives from the Federal Operation Unit, Ikeja, Lagos.”
The Punch reports that the traders carried placards with different inscriptions including one that said: ‘Customs bring back our rice’.
Some officials among the rice sellers were already in a closed-door with Governor Amosun at press time.
